Learning Platforms

Learning Platforms, and I’ve worked on a couple now, (Assimilate and MYPortal to name just two) give users the ability to collaborate at all levels in schools, homes, local authorities and across a region. These systems take the largest Content Management System imaginable, enhance them with the sort of functionality you’d expect in the best Social Networking sites (Communities, Profiles, Instant Messaging, Contact Management etc) then throw in all the things that don’t come as standard, filesharing, wikis, blogs, populate the whole lot with rich-media, now make them really work by making sure access is strictly secure and age appropriate.

You end up with sprawling systems but with functionality that few people even dream is available. . . and it's my job to make certain that the whole lot hangs together regardless of who the user may be.
